HDS723020BLA642 belongs to the Deskstar 7K3000. Works with speed at 7200 rev. / min, aided by a big buffer cache - 64 MB. The drive equiped in a new SATA 6.0 GB/s. Disk offers high-capacity and high-speed transfer of data during both read and write. Very well can handle in the test application. In idle mode is relatively quiet, but during read/write its work is clearly audible.

Shown hard drive belongs to family of the Deskstar 7K3000, designed for operation in high-performance workstations and home computers. We have to choice of three available capacities: 3, 2 and 1.5 TB.

Tested in the laboratory, model of the size of 2 TB, from which after formatted for the user is 1863 GB of usage space. The size of the disk sectors remained unchanged and is 512 bytes (not used advanced formatting, increasing the size of sectors to 4 KB to increase capacity) so a disk is not lost on performance. Plates of disk are working with speed at 7200 rev. / Min, aided by the big size, 64-megabytes buffer of cache.

The tests showed a high efficiency of drive. Its average transferdata during read and write, measured using HD Tach 3.0 application, was 128.1 and 127.4 MB/s with less impressive access time, which was 15.7 ms. The maximum data rate reached by the Deskstar was 155.1 and 154.3 MB / s.

In the real measurement of the speed of read and write, the package of large files totaling 4.3 GB (DVD) managed to save to disk in 29.4 s (146.2 MB / s) and read from disk at 33.7 s . (127.4 MB / s). Exemplary packet data of the average size (2.4 GB files of size about 5 MB in TIF format) saved in 28.9 seconds (82.6 MB / s), and read in 22 s (107.7 MB / s). This drive also went off very well in the application test, PCMark05 HDD Score. He received here one of the highest results in the ranking: 10 257 points.

After a 30-minute cycle of work, we checked the temperature in several places, which reached the surface of casing. Max. 49 ° C it is not the worst result, the drive does not heat up much. We measured in an anechoic chamber noise level emitted by disc. While in idle mode is quite decent and was 33.1 dB (1.6 sone), but during work rises to clearly audible: 37.1 dB (2.6 sone). Mute the disk strongly recommended (eg Scythe Quiet Drive 3.5 ").

Drive Deskstar 7K3000 is not the cheapest of 2 TB, which is available in stores. But it is at this point, the fastest model of such a capacity.
