RAID 0 and 1, in practice, is it worth to set RAID?

Most people interested in computers know what it is RAID. However, if you have not yet met with this problem - I invite you to read the first one of the previous posts.

I wrote this article because of the many questions circulating on the internet and the RAID array. Unfortunately, most of the answers to the question whether we build RAID on home computers and install a system, to say the problem affects not only tweaks and information about RAID arrays. So soon (unfortunately I do not have time to write all in one go) I will try to provide information on issues bothering you.

Such as:

RAID 0 or strip or stripping

  • RAID 0 - is it worth it?
  • RAID0 - file system performance using a strip-
  • RAID 0 - data recovery
  • RAID 0 - a data security

RAID 1 Mirroring or Mirror

  • RAID 1 - is it worth?
  • RAID 1 - Data Security
  • RAID 1 - efficiency and speed reading

And of course:
RAID data recovery

and general questions on
RAID performance, speed and reading, and data security issues and ways ofrecovering data from RAID.

This article is based on several tests using hardware RAID on the MSI 790FX-GD70.

I've always liked the album go Platinum MicroStar or whatever they call them - at least those with higher-end - they had the superior features and interesting solutions.

Unfortunately, for some time, I noticed some weaknesses in their technology - the disc is "moods", ie: they have problems with certain types of equipment as well as future updates BIOS are not sufficiently satisfactory to be able to rely on the brand. For availability of models, not to mention ... we switched to the ASUS-out and, despite the fact that it also has several drawbacks, however, difficult at present for a better day repetitively disc quality. Well, maybe the series M4A785TD-v evo, where the BIOS was crashing every second. Now we test the model as a platform for low-cost computers M4A88TD-V EVO and a great exercise

The moment I write this article works on K9A2Platinum with integrated controller for SAS and the disk 15 000 rev / min with sticker DELL (specifically Cheetach ST3146356SS from Seagate). Less than 5.5ms access a le ... this probably in another article ...

This board (MSI 790FX-GD70) is distinguished by a built-in hardware
RAID controller. In theory this means that the raid is carried out by the CPU chip, and not with the driver and operating system. In other words should be faster, more efficient and more stable.

How was it in reality? It turns out the tests.

The plate that we used to build a workstation configured to work in AutoCad.

Additional components of the computer are:

Phenom II 965

8GB 1333MHz RAM Geil Black Dragon

ASUS GTS250 512M

2x Samsung 1TB 32MB HD103SJ F3

Chieftec APS-750C

The whole of Windows 7 Professional x64 (64 bit)

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the equipment had to be quickly delivered to the customer did not have time to do testing on Windows
XP.
