Comparison of Disk Seagate ST3500418AS (7200.12 500GB) RAID 0 and Samsung HD502HJ (500GB) RAID 0

The purpose of this test is to compare two 500 GB hard drives - Seagate ST3500418AS and Samsung HD502HJ as single working hard drives and in pairs as RAID level 0 solutions.

At the beginning of the test a single disk Seagate ST3500418AS and Samsung HD502HJ with HD Tune 2.55 software

Seagate ST3500418AS software HD Tune:
Seagate ST3500418AS single HDD test

Samsung HD502HJ software HD Tune:
Samsung HD502HJ single HDD test

As we can see maximum and average transfer rate are much better for Samsung. Only disadvantage for Samsung in it's minimal transfer rate is 5 times lover then Segate.

You can visit site of our office RAID data recovery in Atlanta

We can get more details about Samsung HD502HJ with HD Tach software two simple tests.

Software HD Tach Samsung's HD502HJ quick test:
Samsung HD502HJ detailed test

Software HD Tach Samsung's HD502HJ long test:
Samsung HD502HJ detailed test

As you can see the difference in read and write is about 20MB/sec in favor of Samsung as the access time is shorter in the design of the Samsung.

Time for a comparison of the two drives in RAID 0:

To begin with two Seagate ST3500418AS as RAID 0 test with software HD Tune 2.55:
RAID 0 - two Seagate ST3500418AS

The growth speed of read / write more than double.

Two Samsung HD502HJ as RAID 0 test with software HD Tune 2.55:
RAID 0 - two Samsung HD502HJ

As we can see both RAID 0 solutions has much height transfer rates then single drives. RAID 0 based Samsung solution has better maximum and average transfer rates and over 2.5 times better minimal transfer rate then Seagate RAID 0 solution.

Again we can get more details about about both RAIDs with HD Tach software and it's two simple tests – we run each test for each RAID (RAID 0 recovery)

2x Seagate ST3500418AS as RAID 0 software HD Tach quick test:
RAID 0 - two Seagate ST3500418AS details

2x Samsung HD502HJ as RAID 0 software HD Tach quick test:
RAID 0 - two Samsung HD502HJ details

2x Seagate ST3500418AS as RAID 0 software HD Tach long test:
RAID 0 - two Seagate ST3500418AS details

2x Samsung HD502HJ as RAID 0 software HD Tach long test:
RAID 0 - two Samsung HD502HJ details

Again we see that the Samsung is faster and a lot of places because of a lot more than 20MB/sec.

With software "Intel Matrix Storage Console" you can turn on the "Write-Back Cache" which in theory should we accelerate our matrix:

Seagate ST3500418AS as RAID 0 with enabled Write-Back Cache test with software HD Tune 2.55:
RAID 0 Seagate ST3500418AS details write-back bache

Samsung HD502HJ as RAID 0 with enabled Write-Back Cache test with software HD Tune 2.55:
RAID 0 Samsung HD502HJ details write-back bache

We can see the Write-Back Cache increases all transfer rates properties. What is most visible for Seagate hard drives based RAID 0 solution, the minimum transfer rate has much increase – it's doubled!

The Write-Back Cache option accelerates both matrix. Lets have more details again with HD Tach software.

2x Seagate ST3500418AS as RAID 0 with enabled Write-Back Cache software HD Tach quick test:
RAID 0 Seagate ST3500418AS details write-back bache

2x Samsung HD502HJ as RAID 0 with enabled Write-Back Cache software HD Tach quick test:
RAID 0 Samsung HD502HJ details write-back bache

2x Seagate ST3500418AS as RAID 0 with enabled Write-Back Cache software HD Tach long test:
RAID 0 Seagate ST3500418AS details write-back bache

2x Samsung HD502HJ w RAID 0 as RAID 0 with enabled Write-Back Cache software HD Tach long test:
RAID 0 Samsung HD502HJ details write-back bache

As you can see growth in "power" in Software HD Tune for Samsung is marginal, it is better here falls who wrote about Seagate 5MB/sec growth.
The Software HD Tach results are the same in both. Also the Software with enabled Write-Back Cache we note the very large increase in Burst Rate.
As can be seen from the above comparison, "Samsung HD502HJ" is faster and as a single drive and two drives in a RAID 0 from the "Seagate ST3500418AS" an average of 20MB/sec. For this, if you stand before choosing to buy a new drive will be faster then the Samsung solution.
