This time, I would describe the eye of the casual user, how to exercise two hard drives connected in RAID 0. I bought two Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS with identical parameters:

  • 250GB
  • Serial ATA/300
  • 16MB cache
  • 7200 rev. / Min
  • The S.M.A.R.T.

When mounted in the housing and turn the computer on and configure the parameters in the BIOS, everything went off without a problem. I installed the raid drivers from the CD.

Windows 7 installed without any problems and the short time I had Windows already on the disk, but rather on two disks.

They use four technologies, the importance of which let me remind you:

  • NCQ (Native Command Queuing called) - a way to optimize the hard disk in changing the order of reading and writing tasks in co-operation of the controller and the disk so that the tasks were performed with a minimum number of hops the disk heads. This allows for greater efficiency during high loads, reducing mechanical wear on the occasion of the disk.
  • G-Force Protection - increasing resistance and mechanical damage.
  • Adaptive Fly Height - maximizes the efficiency of disk read and write by adjusting the distance between the head and the platter, depending on changes in working conditions.
  • Clean Sweep - the boot drive raises the head so as not to draw the plates and keep them in top condition for the longest possible time.

Drives are really quiet, even though it is mounted in a standard designed for them in the housing areas. So far there is no need for additional financial contribution to the HDD silencing elements or stacking drives in an unusual way, eg on the sponge etc.Być may be a merit that are used in hydrodynamic bearings "SoftSonic" significantly lowering the level of noise generated by the drive, and new technology to increase the recording density and to use fewer platters and heads at a very high capacity.

Temperatures now gained on hot days, are not high, because I do not exceed 30 degrees, but no two are cooled by a 92mm fan.

With regard to transfer, copy or move, this is done in a very good pace. Instead of waiting a few minutes or tens of seconds, now it is done in very much less. Importantly, the programs of all types run much faster, everything got such a kick that up nicely in front of my computer is working and this has an impact on mood. It is important to have that with these operations, the drives are not wydawają any audible sounds disturbing.

Benefits:

  • better read and write speed compared to a single disk

Cons:

  • lack of resistance to failure of disks
  • no reading of s.m.a.r.t
